Much
more than just a biography, this one-hour program
is an excursion through the history of 20th century
America. John Gardner was counselor to six presidents,
Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare under
LBJ and a prolific author and thinker. He founded
Common Cause, a grassroots lobbying organization
and Independent Sector, which brings together
nonprofit groups and corporate giving programs
to support volunteerism and citizen action. He
was also the guiding light behind the White House
Fellows program.
Gardner's story is, above all, the story of the
people he touched, the programs he created, the
lives he changed. And so it is told, in large
part through the voices of those he worked with
and influenced over the years.
